Cooperative Agreement for Affiliated Partner with the Californian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU)
The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Western Fisheries Research Center in partnership with the Grand Canyon Science Center and Wetland and Aquatic Research Center solicits technical assistance from a CESU partner to: a) integrate a novel road network model into an existing invasive quagga and zebra mussel risk assessment model for Washington State; and b) expand that model to establish a standardized risk assessment for golden mussels in California. This new optimization framework will be designed to identify ideal locations for mitigation interventions like watercraft inspection and decontamination (WID) stations and "clean-drain-dry" information campaigns. This work will leverage a collaborative multi-year effort that developed standardized risk assessment models in the Missouri and Columbia river basins (Raymond et al. 2024 and 2026). This risk-based approach is being done as part of a call to action by state and federal resource managers in Washington State and California. USGS staff will provide model development guidance, assist with gathering needed datasets, and will help facilitate relationships with state and federal resource management partners. This work supports the President's Executive Order 14154 – Unleashing American Energy (January 20, 2025 and adjoining Interior Secretarial Order 3418 -Unleashing American Energy (February 3, 2025) as well as Executive Order 14156 - Declaring a National Energy Emergency (January 20, 2025) by protecting numerous hydro-electric facilities and ensuring reliable energy is readily accessible. It protects new water delivery infrastructure investments associated with Executive Order 14181 - Emergency Measures to Provide Water Resources in California and Improve Disaster Response in Certain Areas (January 24, 2025). It also ensures that the "Gold Standard of Science" (Executive Order 14303- Restoring Gold Standard Science (May 23, 2025) is being applied to issues of significant economic, safety, and security importance to the nation.

Cooperative Agreement for Affiliated Partner with the Colorado Plateau Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU)
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research in developing multi-month forecasts of management-relevant rangeland drought forecasts and improve a platform for delivering those forecasts to resource managers across western rangelands.Research Objectives:Wildfire and invasive species are transforming dryland ecosystems of the western U.S., particularly across the vast western rangelands. Restoration treatments are much more likely to succeed if applied when conditions are favorable. This project will pursue two goals: 1) The project will develop gridded ecological drought forecasts to help rangeland managers target restoration investments in places and times where plant establishment is likely. Currently, the drought forecaster operates for a user-defined point. This work will generate wall-to-wall, monthly, weather and soil moisture forecasts using "real time" weather forecast data from the National Weather Service, which are updated each month. These rapid, real-time broad geographic assessments of regeneration potential will help inform resource allocation for management agencies. Using these wall-to-wall simulations, this project will produce continuously-updated forecast maps of near-term soil drought and seed establishment probabilities for the western US. 2) This project will synthesize establishment requirements for critical restoration species so managers know when and where species are likely to successfully establish.Deliverables from this project include synthesized information about related peer-reviewed publications about the establishment requirements (notably soil moisture conditions) for critical restoration species and continuously updated forecast maps of near-term ecological drought and establishment probabilities for the western US. These forecasts are currently used to target seeding for dryland restoration in locations and at times when conditions are most likely to support plant establishment and other applications are being developed. NSF Dynamic Language Infrastructure - NEH Documenting Endangered Languages
This funding partnership between the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) supports projects to develop and advance knowledge concerning dynamic language infrastructure in the context of endangered human languages — languages that are both understudied and at risk of falling out of use. Made urgent by the imminent loss of roughly half of the approximately 7,000 currently used languages, this effort aims to exploit advances in human-language technology to build computational infrastructure for endangered language research. The program supports projects that contribute to data management and archiving, and to the development of the next generation of researchers. Funding can support fieldwork and other activities relevant to the digital recording, documentation and analysis, and archiving of endangered language data, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples, and databases. Funding is available in the form of one- to three-year senior research grants and conference proposals. The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on brown treesnakes (Boiga irregularis) in the Pacific Islands. Brown treesnakes (BTS) have caused the severe decline, extirpation, or extinction of several native terrestrial vertebrate species in Guam. The USGS Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center (PIERC) has staff on Guam and elsewhere that conduct research on biology and control of BTS to mitigate economic and ecological impacts and risks of BTS, including enhancing military readiness through participating in biosecurity and biosurveillance initiatives. USGS- PIERC also manages the BTS Rapid Response Team, which trains cooperators throughout the Pacific region and stands ready to respond to snake sightings on short notice. Research by USGS-PIERC on control and interdiction of brown treesnakes is currently funded by U.S. Department of the Navy, DOI Office of Insular Affairs, and the USGS Invasive Species Program.USGS is looking to leverage collaborations to incorporate skills in the capture, removal, detection, and technical familiarity with Guam into the broader research goals of long-standing USGS research on BTS in Guam.

<p>Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) Clinical Trial Award supports the rapid implementation of clinical trials with the potential to have significant impact on the treatment and management of a disease or condition addressed in one of the congressionally directed FY26 PRMRP topic areas and FY26 PRMRP strategic goals.</p><p><br></p><p>Distinctive Features: Must support a clinical trial. Supports two different application categories, based on the phase of planning for the clinical trial: Clinical Trial Only or Clinical Trial with Planning Phase. The Clinical Trial with Planning Phase option is intended to support the final phase of regulatory activities and planning activities that are necessary to be completed prior to initiation of the clinical trial. The planning phase cannot be used to finalize the intervention or support animal studies. Applications that already have regulatory approvals in place and are submitting to the Clinical Trial Only option may be prioritized over those requesting the Planning Phase option. Animal studies are not supported. Studies must complete all preclinical empirical laboratory work prior to the award start date.</p><p><br></p><p>Supports three funding levels, each offered with and without a Planning Phase:</p><p><br></p><p>Funding Level 1: Supports phase 0 or phase 1 clinical trials or non-phased trials with fewer than 100 participants.</p><p><br></p><p>Funding Level 2: Supports phase 2 clinical trials or non-phased trials with fewer than 300 participants.</p><p><br></p><p>Funding Level 3: Supports phase 3 clinical trials or non-phased trials with more than 300 participants.</p><p><br></p><p>Funding Details: The Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) expects to allot roughly $94.5M to fund approximately 9 Clinical Trial Award applications with total cost caps of $800,000 for the planning phase of a Clinical Trial with Planning Phase, $6M for Funding Level 1, $10M for Funding Level 2, and $20M for Funding Level 3 per award. The maximum period of performance is 4 years for the clinical trial, and 12 months for the planning phase. It is anticipated that awards made from this FY26 funding opportunity will be funded with FY26 funds, which will expire for use on September 30, 2032. Awards supported with FY26 funds will be made no later than September 30, 2027.</p>
